Retro UFO Papercraft

I like the retro styling of this little papercraft UFO. The finished model measures only three inches (7.6 cm) across.  Created by Sirrob01, the flying saucer was originally intended for use in miniature gaming. The PDF template for the model may be downloaded here. Sirrob says the guns are the hardest part of the build followed by the clear canopy.

Star Wars Papercraft: Darth Vader TIE Fighter

In Star Wars Episode IV during the battle to destroy the Death Star, Darth Vader pilots an advance prototype starfighter known as the TIE Advanced x1. Unlike most TIE fighters, this particular version was equipped with a hyperdrive. This paper model of the TIE/x1 is the work of Sergey-Haker at swmodel.ru. The template may be downloaded at Noturno Sukhoi's website.

Star Trek TOS Papercraft: Romulan Bird of Prey

The Romulan Bird of Prey is one of my favorite starships in the original Star Trek television series.  This well designed paper model of the ship by Horissman even includes landing gear. The PDF template for the model (which contains detailed assembly diagrams) may be downloaded here. The build photos above are by Josh (aka Sidewinder). In a previous post I featured a papercraft Romulan Warbird, also on my list of favorite Star Trek spacecraft.

Star Wars Papercraft: Miniature Gaming Starships

Miniature gaming fan Momir Farooq has a collection of twenty three Star Wars starships available for download. The tiny paper models are intended to be used with the Star Wars Miniatures gaming system. Pictured are a B-Wing, a snowspeeder (technically, not a starship), a Y-Wing, a X-Wing, and a A-Wing.
The starships may be downloaded here. The snowspeeder  and other ground vehicles may be downloaded here. Build photo above is by ThunderChildFTC at DeviantART.

Star Wars Papercraft: TIE Bomber

Here's another Star Wars paper model from Goozi: a TIE bomber. The unusual configuration of the TIE bomber is explained by Wookieepedia:
"The TIE bomber has two hulls next to each other; one carries the pilot and the other carries a pair of general purpose warhead launchers enabling the ship to carry a variety of weapons tailored for the mission."
My favorite TIE bomber memory from the Star War films is when in The Empire Strikes Back the TIEs bombard the asteroid where the Millennium Falcon is hiding. The Pepakura PDO template for the spacecraft may be downloaded here.

James Bond Papercraft: Moonraker 6 Space Shuttle

In the 1979 movie Moonraker, James Bond and Dr. Holly Goodhead pilot a shuttle (Moonraker 6) into space in order to stop the evil plans of antagonist Sir Hugo Drax. US space program enthusiast Alfonso X. Moreno has created a 1:144 scale paper model of the fictional space shuttle. The template for the shuttle is offered as a free download on his website. If you visit his site, be sure to check out Alfonso's many other detailed space program paper models.

Mass Effect 2 Papercraft: SSV Normandy SR-1 Starship

I am in the mood for Mass Effect 2 papercraft ^^(see previous post). This paper model by DaiShiHUN is of the SSV Normandy SR-1 starship. According to the Mass Effect Wiki, the SR-1's purpose is "solo reconnaissance missions deep within unstable regions, using state-of-the-art stealth technology powered by an experimental drive core." The PDO template for this and several other Mass Effect 2 papercraft may be found here (Note: free Z-Zip software is required to open the template files)

Mass Effect 2 Paper Models: M35 Mako and Kodiak

Here are two paper models of vehicles from the Mass Effect 2 video game. On the left is a M35 Mako infantry fighting vehicle, whose weapons are described by the Mass Effect Wiki as a "turreted 155mm mass accelerator cannon" and a "coaxial-mounted machine gun". On the right is a Kodiak drop shuttle. Both these papercraft models are the creation of deviantARTist ThunderChildFTC and their templates may be downloaded here and here.

Space 1999 Papercraft: Eagle Transporter

Over the years, I have seen several different papercraft templates for the Eagle Transporter spacecraft from Space: 1999. However, most of these paper models were very detailed and thus pretty difficult to build. Finally, with the release of this papercraft Eagle by DA artist Frohickey, a simpler, easier-to-build version of the Eagle is available. The seven pages of Frohickey's template may be downloaded here.

Star Wars Papercraft: Radiant VII Starship

Here is another Star Wars papercraft from Goozi. This paper model is the Radiant VII, a Consular-class cruiser that appears at the beginning of Star Wars Episode I. According to the Star Wars wiki, Consulars in diplomatic service are painted red to declare their diplomatic immunity. Shortly into Episode I, the Radiant VII is destroyed while it is docked inside a Trade Federation ship. The PDO format template for the ship may be downloaded here.

Star Trek Papercraft: Romulan Warbird Starship

The D'deridex-class Warbird starship of the Romulan Star Empire first made its appearance on the Star Trek: The Next Generation television show. According to Zosho, the creator of this paper model of the ship, the Warbird is a large, heavily armed starship equipped with an excellent cloaking device. Zosho painstakingly created the template for the Warbird with Adobe Photoshop. All thirteen of the pages of the template may be downloaded here.

Star Wars Papercraft: B-wing Starfighter

The B-wing starfighter first made its appearance in the Battle of Endor scene in Star Wars Episode 6, Return of the Jedi. StarWars.com describes the B-wing as "perhaps the oddest-looking starfighter in the Rebel Alliance". The template for this papercraft B-wing by Czech designer Goozi is available here (Pepakura PDO format only).

Lost in Space Papercraft: Landing Pod

Ron Caudillo is a well known designer of science fiction paper models. His Star Trek TOS models of the USS Enterprise and its bridge have delighted Trek fans since 2003. Less well known perhaps is his papercraft model of the landing pod from the 1960's televisionshow, Lost in Space. The pod was introduced in the third season of the show as a means to transport the crew of the Jupiter 2 spaceship down to the surface of alien planets. Pendercrafts.com has made the template for the LIS pod available in a zip file. The zip file also includes numerous Caudillo designs including paper models of: military vehicles, several BattleBots, a bus, puzzle cubes, a few office machines, as well as the aforementioned Star Trek models. Look for the download link at the bottom of the page here.

Perry Rhodan Papercraft: DZ Battle Light Starship

In the ongoing Perry Rhodan science fiction book series, Battle Lights are battle spaceships made of a charged form of energy. The Battle Lights appear much like a symmetrical polished ruby with a glowing ring of red light around the middle. Each of the three pages of the template for this papercraft Battle Light were originally offered as inserts in Perry Rhodan volumes 2514 through 2516. Perry-Rhodan.net has conveniently gathered the inserts into a single PDF file which may be downloaded here. Instructions for the model are available here.

Star Wars A-wing Origami

Every once in a while I feel the need to post some origami. :) This Star Wars A-wing starfighter was folded by Jens-Helge Dahmen and is a modification of a folding pattern originally created by origami artist Adam Black. All that is required to build the A-wing is a 20x20 cm square of paper that has color on one side only. Gift wrap paper might work nicely. Dahmen's folding pattern for the A-wing is available for download here (look for the link near the bottom of the page).

Battlestar Galactica Papercraft: Colonial Viper Mk I

Papercraft designer Ninjatoes recently released a Colonial Viper Mark II model, but before the Mark II there was the Viper Mark I which appeared in the original Battlestar Galactica television series that aired in the late 70's. This papercraft Mark I is a rework by Fred Smith of a Viper template from a Japanese website. Fred has done a great job giving the Viper a weathered look and he also has designed a launch rail on which to display the starfighter. Fred's templates are available for download here. In addition to the red striped Viper pictured, there is also a template for a blue striped Viper.

Prototype Soviet Spacecraft Paper Models

The former Soviet Union developed numerous spacecraft for space exploration, but most of these vehicles were never put into service. Two paper model examples of these prototype Soviet spacecraft are pictured above. On the left is the LEK Lunar Lander which was developed in the late 70's. It was intended to function in the same way as the US Apollo Lunar Module. On the right is the Buran Orbiter, a rival of the US Space Shuttle. After one unmanned flight in 1988, the Buran project was abandoned. Both these paper models are the work of Leo Cherkashyn. The templates may be downloaded here and here.

Star Wars Papercraft: X-Wing Starfighter

There are quite a few different papercraft models out there of the X-Wing starfighter from the Star Wars movies, but what sets this one apart is its cartoonish looks which I find kind of cute for some reason. This model is the creation of Al MacDonald who does the online comic "Diary of a Crazed Mimbanite". The style of the X-Wing somewhat matches the style of the online comic. Al has also created a TIE fighter to go along with the X-Wing. Both templates may be downloaded here.

NASA Papercraft: ARES Mars Airplane

The folks at NASA are working on a pilot-less, rocket-powered airplane to perform an Aerial Regional-scale Environmental Survey of Mars ("ARES" for short). If eventually deployed, the ARES Mars Airplane will record information previously unobtainable on the atmosphere, surface and interior of Mars. The ARES design team has posted a 1:36 scale papercraft version of the Mars Airplane that actually flies. Look at the bottom of the page here to find the template.

1960's Science Fiction Television Papercraft

In the early 60's, long before British television producer Gerry Anderson produced TV shows like Space:1999 and Thunderbirds, he created two shows, Supercar and Fireball XL5. Each of the productions was a science fiction children's show that featured Anderson's signature marionettes which later became so well known on the Thunderbirds show. These two papercraft were created in 2001 by Pierre Fontaine as an homage to the shows which are now largely forgotten. Free template downloads of the retro spacecraft are available here along with a template for a papercraft Queen Anne style house.
