Yeti & Evil Sheep Papercraft

Hidden on the Snowdin website are four free snow related paper toys: A Saint Bernard rescue dog, a chalet, and my two favorites, Yeti and Evil Sheep. According to Snowdin: "The battle between Evil Sheep and Yeti is as old as the struggle between good and evil itself." Snowdin is chock-full of fun wintry activities. RPG Papercraft: Blue Dragon

Here's another great miniature gaming papercraft designed by Eddnic. This blue dragon is a good illustration of Eddnic's 2.5D paper model work which is so well developed that it could be considered true 3D papercraft (or at least 2.7D ^^). A download of the blue dragon template is available here.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl Papercraft: Pit

I don't have much information on this papercraft of the character Pit from Nintendo's Kid Icarus series of video games. What I do know is that the template for the paper model was created by former DeviantART member Sora243 in 2008. The model may have been based on a 3D model from the Super Smash Bros. Brawl video game, although I can't say for sure. Pit is an angel from the mythical world of "Angel Land". Papercraft templates in PDF and PDO format may be downloaded here.

2.5D Dragon Paper Model

The term "2.5D" is a very appropriate description for the papercraft figures that are often created for miniature gaming. They are more than just flat 2D paper figures, but something less than a full blown 3D paper model. This red dragon paper model is one of the better examples to be found of the art of 2.5D modeling. RPG Dragon Papercraft

This papercraft dragon was designed by Jordan Peacock, the same designer who brought us the Alice in Wonderland Chess Set. This type of model is what Jordan calls "figure flats" which are simple fold-over paper models meant to serve in the place of the more expensive painted miniatures used in role playing games. In other places I have seen papercraft of this kind referred to as a "2 1/2 D" model, which I think is a good way to describe a 3D paper construction that is built of mostly flat pieces. Karatsu Kunchi Parade Float Paper Models

Karatsu Kunchi is a three day festival that takes place each November on the Japanese island of Kyushu. Each day of the festival there is a parade in which large floats are drawn through the streets by families who live on the island. Each of the floats was originally built in the 1800's. Pictured above are papercraft models of three of the floats. From left to right are a red lion, a green lion and a red bream fish. Templates and instructions for each of these paper models may be downloaded at the bottom of the page here.

Saint Seiya Papercraft #2: Athena Statue

Here is another papercraft by Moustagua. Once again based on the Saint Seiya anime series, this is a papercraft statue of the Greek goddess Athena. In the series, Athena is assisted by warrior "saints" in her struggles against the other gods. This papercraft model appears to be heavily based on the real life gold and ivory statue of Athena that once stood inside the Parthenon in Athens. On the column is the traditional Greek winged symbol of victory and behind Athena's shield is a snake which is a symbol of Erichthonius, who legend has it was one of the early rulers of Athens. Saint Seiya Papercraft #1: Odin Statue

The Saint Seiya anime television series was popular around the world in the late 80's but wasn't aired in the US until 2003. Based on a Japanese manga series, the storyline of the show follows the exploits of mystical warriors called "saints" who fight for the goddess Athena in her struggle to protect Earth from other gods in the Greek pantheon. In the "Asgard" story arc of the show the saints encounter characters from Norse mythology. This papercraft Odin statue by French papercrafter, Moustagua, is presumably based on an image from this particular story arc. Odin is king of the Norse gods much like Zeus is in the Greek pantheon. Simple Sea Serpent Papercraft

Sometimes simple papercraft can be the most fun to build. This paper toy sea serpent by artist Laura Schlipf gets my vote in the fun-to-build category. Despite being Laura's first papercraft design, she has added some creative touches like including an extra page of "humps" in the template which may be printed out as many times as desired to make (as she puts it) a serpent that is "reeeally long". Loch Ness Monster Papercraft

When I first came across this papercraft I thought it might be a dinosaur, but after I translated the Japanese I found instead it was a papercraft of Nessie, the Loch Ness Monster. Now we just need some paper models of Bigfoot and a chupacabra to make the set complete. ^^ The template for Nessie is offered by the Mochizuki Printing Company here.
